Later! -Keyna Jo TYPE 1 - THE PERFECTIONISTHas anyone ever said to you, "OMG! You're such a perfectionist! Do you spend hours making sure that all of your lines (on anything) are lined up and consistent throughout? You very well could be particular about how you want things done or your personality type may be a Type 1 - Perfectionist. But, let me tell you, it goes much deeper than consistent lines. Perfectionists or Ones for short, are conscientious and ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong. They are teachers, crusaders, and advocates for change: always striving to improve things, but afraid of making a mistake. Well-organized, orderly, and fastidious, they try to maintain high standards, but can slip into being critical and perfectionistic. They typically have problems with resentment and impatience. Talk to Y'all Later! -Keyna Jo I took a Personal Psychology class which introduced me to the Enneagram and it literally changed my life! I had no idea what the Enneagram was but was very intrigued by the workbook we were asked to complete before the end of the semester. I wanted to get started right away but my professor had a method to her madness that I could only respect, so I waited patiently. Going through the inventories or checklists and then reading up on each type was eye opening! I immediately recognized my type and wanted to see a more detailed look at what it meant to be a Type One/Perfectionist was enlightening. I was taking this class during a time where I was completely unsure of myself, very depressed and anxiety ridden. To have this mirror and spot light out on myself was uncomfortable and comforting at the same time. I was fresh into therapy and that with this class was the open door I needed to find myself and get back on track, well a track anyways. Since then I've been on a mission to learn as much as I can about myself and how to deal with me, no one else. It’s been a journey for sure…
The Enneagram is an ancient personality system that has been around for centuries. It is a tool that can be used to help us to understand what motivates us as individuals, and how and why we interact with others the way we do. It can help us understand how we respond to stress and help to reveal our unconscious patterns which can allow us to deal with and face our challenges head on in an effective manner. This was an absolute game-changer for me! I found out why I can be overly critical of myself, why I’m prone to being a workaholic and why I have a sometimes unhealthy urge to be right about everything. Once I uncovered these traits about myself and many others, I had a complete “Come to Jesus” moment and I decided which things I absolutely had to change and what things I loved about myself that I wanted to stay the same. So, I guess by now you’re like, “girl tell me how to figure out my type already!” (LOL) There are nine types, they have many different names for each but I’ll stick to just one (or two) to make it easier to digest. Here they are along with a brief description, you may be able to identify yourself just from that you may not, either way, that's ok. The Nine Personality types |
